Does the banking industry need an overhaul?
The Business Secretary has made calls for a criminal investigation into the conduct of bankers at Barclays responsible for rigging interest rates.
These comments will no doubt resonate with the wider population, many of whom will have been affected by the manipulation of City interest rates by bankers at the top. This latest scandal will be both deeply embarrassing and damaging to an industry that is attempting to rebuild public trust, and a move by Government to implement an overhaul cannot come soon enough.
More concerning however, is that fact that so many unscrupulous practices have been exposed over the past few years – perhaps we should expect a few more to come out of the woodwork before any change is actually implemented?
