New car registrations increase 3.5%
Registration of new cars in Britain rose by 3.5% year-on-year in June, following robust demand from from private buyers.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the rise was not as strong as the 7.9% increase in May, although the market was 5% ahead of expectations for Q2, indicating strong levels of consumer demand.
Commenting on the figures, Paul Everitt SMMT chief executive said: “Despite domestic and international economic concerns, UK motorists are responding positively to new products and the latest fuel-efficient technology.
