A Baker’s Delight
A Bolton-based family craft bakery is celebrating scooping a national award at the ‘Oscars’ of the baking community for one of its newest products.
Greenhalgh’s is celebrating after its Crumpet Loaf grabbedthe judges’ attention at the 2012 Baking Industry Awards (BIAs),and took home the ‘Product Innovation’ award. The loaf which comes thickly sliced is described by the bakery as “the perfect warm snack for anytime of day”, and has already created a loyal following with fans as far afield as London.
Production director of the business David Smart, who was also commended as a finalist in the ‘Baker of the Year’ category, commented: “We’re really proud of our Crumpet Loaf as there is nothing quite like it on the market and in recent months we’ve had requests from people all over the country who want to try it. This award however marks industry recognition which means a lot to everyone in the business and is a credit to all their hard work.”
The loaf was inspired by David Smart’s visit to Australia where he was served slices of a crumpet bread. It is available from all of Greenhalgh’s 60 stores throughout the North West, costing £1.30.
