Cheers Vince

Landlords were dealt a fairer hand this week as Vince Cable introduced new rules for pub companies, meaning landlords will no longer be under tied lease arrangements.

An IPPR study found that almost half of tied publicans earn less than £15,000 a year, whereas among their independent counterparts, the proportion was 22%.

In the last few months, Tesco’s foray into faux-indiedom has garnered a lot of attention. Their minority stake in “artisan” coffee shop chain Harris and Hoole has left indie-lovers spitting their mochas on their shoes.

Perhaps now the big pub chains will try a similar approach?
