Expansion plans bring some spice to Sheffield

After more than 15 years of growth and year-on-year success, Abdul Ghafoor, owner of Abdul’s takeaway and diner, with sites in both Wakefield and Pontefract, is set to add some spice to Sheffield after signing a 15-year lease for a food outlet in the city.

The new facility, which is based on Ecclesall Road, will also bring employment opportunities to the area with vacant positions for ten local people.

Building on his love of food and authentic Indian cuisine, Abdul noticed a gap in the market in Wakefield and created the perfect balance between an Indian restaurant and takeaway; a sit in diner, allowing customers to eat in or takeaway. He repeated the model in Pontefract and has now brought the concept to Sheffield.

Mr Ghafoor said: “We have maintained a loyal customer base for many years and want to expand that into other areas of Yorkshire.

“I am very passionate about what we do and believe that when you offer people authentic Indian dishes, using real Asian ingredients and spices, they can taste the difference.

He added: “We are not your traditional late night takeaway and we genuinely care about the quality of the food that we serve to our clients. We hope that people in Sheffield will come along and sample what we have to offer.”

Taking his passion of cooking from his late mother, Abdul built on the skills he had learnt when cooking at home and took a course to train as a chef before launching the first Abdul’s takeaway and diner.

Now, with a turnover of more than £500,000, Mr Ghafoor has plans to open more outlets in major Yorkshire locations.
