Liverpool John Lennon Airport sign nine-year easyJet deal

Airline carrier easyJet have announced a nine-year deal with Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA), which will see a new route to Cyprus put in place.

The commitment announced on Thursday is part of what JLA called easyJet’s continued and growing presence at the airport, while the airline also celebrated its initial flights to Newquay and Nantes this week.

Two weekly flights will go between JLA and Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, which easyJet hope will expand their already strong base in Merseyside.

Larnaca Airport and JLA are both part of Vantage Airport Group’s global network, although Larnaca is the first airport in the group to be connected to Liverpool.

Vantage set out the goal of linking the two sites when they acquired a majority shareholding in JLA three years ago, with the two airports working together to persuade easyJet to run the service.

Matthew Thomas, chief executive of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, commented, “The Airport has worked in partnership with easyjet for over 15 years and we have seen both our businesses expand dramatically during this time.

“This latest agreement shows their continued commitment towards sustaining and growing their business here at Liverpool and we look forward to seeing more easyJet passengers and destinations over the next 9 years and beyond.”

Larnaca Airport is the main gateway to the Republic of Cyprus, and fares from Liverpool will begin at £30.99 each way, with flights operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Ali Gayward, commercial manager for easyJet, said: “Liverpool was one of easyJet’s original bases and remains one of our largest bases in Europe.

“We are pleased to have secured a new agreement with John Lennon Airport which outlines our long term commitment to Liverpool and allows easyJet to add exciting new destinations such as Larnarca.

“Cyprus is a great winter sun destination with some of the Mediterranean’s best beaches and a rich culture, so we’re confident it will prove a popular addition to Liverpool.”
