Punters make sure Wetherspoon's glass is half full
Budget pub chain J D Wetherspoon has seen a 3.5% rise in sales over the 11 weeks to July, as the brand continues to go from strength to strength.
Management said the 3.5% rise in like-for-like sales was better than expected and in the year so far, total sales for the company have increase 9.2%.
Wetherspoon has open 29 pubs since the start of the financial year and intends to establish a further 30 in the following year.
The company said good sales will need to be maintained in order to overcome the impact of the late night levy, machine game duty and business rates increases.
In a trading statement, the management said the disparity between pub and supermarket VAT was one of the biggest dangers for the pub trade.
