Disney searches for North East Child Laureate

Disney UK has launched a new storytelling contest to find five regional Winnie the Pooh Laureates, one of who will be from the North East.

Aspiring Laureates are being asked to share with Disney original stories inspired by their area’s local history and landmarks, featuring Winnie the Pooh and Friends taking an adventure outside of 100 Acre Wood or introducing their own new cast of characters. Entrants will need to submit their own story of 500 words or less and five lucky winners will be crowned “Winnie the Pooh Laureate.

Spearheading the campaign for the North East is published author Keith Gregson. An esteemed writer, musician, songwriter and historian, Keith has written 19 books including Children’s History of Sunderland and has had over 400 features published in national and regional magazines and newspapers over the last decade.

Keith said: “I’m so pleased to be a part of the Winnie the Pooh Laureate campaign, I want as many people as possible to use their local surroundings to help inspire their stories. Places like F Pit, Penshaw Monument and Spottee’s Cave on the sea front have always been hugely inspirational to me and I’d love to see Winnie the Pooh and Friends taken on a mini adventure there! Good luck and I look forward to reading your stories.”

One lucky winner will have the chance to read their story at the Disney Store in Sunderland, have their story printed in a special book and win a goodie bag of Winnie the Pooh merchandise for their families. To enter the Winnie the Pooh Laureate competition, visit the Winnie the Pooh UK & Ireland Facebook page - www.facebook.com/WinniethePoohUKandIreland - for full terms & conditions. The contest will close on 17th December 2013.
