Boro ‘Bongo’ likened to Transporter Bridge and the Parmo
A well known Middlesbrough club has been likened to the iconic Transporter Bridge and the Chicken Parmo, after it was temporarily shut down by local authorities.
Club Bongo International, in Middlesbrough, has had its licence temporarily suspended following a serious assault at the club last month.
The decision to suspend the licence was taken at a meeting of Middlesbrough Council’s Licensing sub-committee following an application by Cleveland Police for an expedited review of the premises’ licence.
The licence will remain suspended pending a full review hearing due to be held later this month.
But the club’s owners have vowed to work with the police and expect it to reopen “shortly”.
“Club Bongo is an extremely well known and popular venue which is as much a part of the town as Transporter Bridge and the chicken parmo,” said Simon Catterall, of Jackson’s Law Firm speaking on behalf of the club’s owners.
“The management have already gone to great lengths to make the premises a safe environment for our customers and we’re determined to keep it that way.
“We are presently working closely with the police to enhance the CCTV and security within the building still further and we expect the club to reopen shortly.”
The suspension of the club’s licence followed a serious assault which took place on the premises in the early hours of Sunday, October 27, which left the victim with serious injuries.
A man was arrested on suspicion of assault following the alleged attack and subsequently released on bail.
