Liverpool city region annual tourism awards now open

The best of Liverpool city region’s £3.4 billion a year visitor economy will be honoured at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards at a glittering ceremony at St George’s Hall.

The high-profile event, which will be held on Thursday, 22nd May, is now in its third decade and recognises outstanding contributions to the City Region’s tourism sector. The sector supports 46,000 jobs and has helped to make the City Region the 5th most popular destination for international visitors in the UK.

A panel of leading industry experts, including Peter Avis, manager of Richard Branson’s award-winning Babylon restaurant at the Kensington Roof Gardens, Hamish Anderson, head sommelier and wine buyer for The Tate, and Helena Egan, Head of Destination Marketing Sales for Trip Advisor, will help to select the winners. The awards will showcase the very best practice across the industry with 16 categories for excellence across a wide range of sectors.

Attended by around 500 people from public and private sector organisations from the industry, the awards are held on behalf of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The awards also create an incentive which encourages companies to continue to strive to deliver the very best visitor experience possible. A selection of sponsors supporting the awards include Liverpool ONE, City Central Bid, Commercial Bid and Liverpool Hoteliers Association.

Sara Wilde McKeown, Chair of Liverpool City Region’s Visitor Economy Board said: “Liverpool’s visitor economy is one of the most vibrant and exciting in the UK and it’s important that we reward excellence in the industry and recognise the businesses, organisations and individuals which are raising the bar and helping to ensure that the City Region’s offering continues to grow both in quality and diversity.

“This is a great opportunity for businesses in the sector to raise their profiles, communicate their success and differentiate themselves from their competitors and we are looking forward to seeing the best the city has to offer at the awards in May.”
