New commercial director appointed at Yorwaste
Waste management and recycling company Yorwaste has appointed its first Group Commercial Director.
Richard Abell has joined the Northallerton-based company with a brief to develop and implement a strategy to grow its revenue and profit. This will include developing new opportunities with Yorwaste’s existing customers and targeting new business/revenue streams.
The 47-year-old, who is originally from Manchester but now lives with his wife and two children in Huddersfield, has spent most of his career working in the construction industry.
He was with Marshalls plc, a UK-based manufacturer of natural stone and concrete hard landscaping products, for 17 years, latterly in charge of the company’s water management division. Prior to joining Yorwaste he had his own consultancy.
Within days of starting at Yorwaste he spent an eight-hour shift working with the bin collection crews, in the Harrogate area, to get an idea of the business works on the ground.
Richard said: “The waste industry is entirely new to me so before I got to grips with my day job I thought it was important to see first-hand what remains a very important part of the Yorwaste business.
“I was left very impressed with the quality and motivation of the crew I worked with and they had lots of ideas about how the business could be improved, which is fantastic.
“My overall goal is to improve the commercial arm of the business and to work closely with the operations team to not only generate new business but to seek further opportunities with existing customers.”
Steve Grieve, Managing Director Yorwaste, said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard to Yorwaste; he is a great addition to what is a very strong team.
“He brings a new perspective to the company and we look forward to utilising his considerable commercial experience to hopefully grow the business further in the coming years.”
