Safety award for Sheffield firm
Leading repairs and maintenance provider, Kier Sheffield, won a Gold Medal Award in the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health & Safety Awards 2014.
The Gold Medal Award is presented to organisations that have achieved between five and nine consecutive Gold Awards, and Kier Sheffield has won nine. It benchmarks Kier Sheffield’s health & safety performance and recognises its continuous drive for the highest standards of health & safety while carrying out repairs and maintenance to more than 42,000 council properties across Sheffield.
Set up as a joint venture between Sheffield City Council and Kier, Kier Sheffield has been rewarded for its professional approach to preventing accidents, which includes carrying out regular health & safety briefings and training.
RoSPA’s awards manager, David Rawlins said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health & safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health & safety management systems, such as Kier Sheffield, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”
Kier regional operations manager, Phil Oades, said: “To receive our ninth consecutive Gold Award, and therefore a Gold Medal Award, is a great achievement. It demonstrates our employees’ dedication to continuously improving their health & safety practices and to maintaining the highest standards possible. The safety of employees, residents and members of the public has been, and always will be, of the utmost importance to Kier.”
Kier Group won a total of 13 RoSPA Awards in 2014.
