Tee-rrific fundraising success for Calvert Trust Kielder
A CHARITY golf day has boosted a fundraising drive which has so far raised more than £90,000 to support services for disabled people, their families and carers.
The 16th Calvert Trust Kielder annual golf day attracted 16 teams from local businesses including Apex Radio’s, Concept Group and TLW Solicitors, who went into battle at Ponteland Golf Club for the overall winner’s trophy and titles such as ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘straightest drive’.
With the sun beating down on the players, the 64 golfers all put in a sterling performance but Hexham’s ‘Motor Bodies’, who also claimed last year’s top spot, won out in the end with Reece Group and Garwen Enterprises taking commendable second and third positions.
Keith Milton, director at Motor Bodies and one of the winning team said: “The heat this year made it extra tough but we were determined as ever and really wanted to win.
“It was a really good day for a great cause. We’re very proud to say we support the brilliant work that Calvert Trust Kielder does.”
Corporate & Events fundraiser at Calvert Trust Kielder Hazel Ditchburn organised the event. She said: “The golf day goes from strength to strength. Everyone involved has a great day which is why I think it is one of our biggest fundraising events.
“The support of local and regional businesses is absolutely key to our fundraising and continued work with disabled adults and children so we really are very grateful.”
The next big fundraiser for Calvert Trust Kielder is the annual Calvert Ball taking place on Friday 10 October 2014 at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead. For further information visit www.calvert-trust.org.uk/kielder or call the fundraising team on 01434 250232.
