Local talent through to the Blue Arrow Chef of the Year Final!
Andrew Hymers, Chef de Partie at the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Hotel Metrocentre, fought off national competition to gain a place in the Blue Arrow Chef of the Year Final. Out of 28 qualifying entries, Andrew was one of six chefs to impress judges enough to get a place in the final.
Andrew’s winning menu was: Mackerel Beets | Earl Grey Lamb | Spiced Apple Streusel Cake & Saffron Cardamom Ice Cream
Hard work and determination seemed to be the key factor behind Andrew’s success; “It’s been a long process, however I’ve just worked hard and didn’t cave under pressure. I love what I do, and I think that shows in my food”.
Chris Wells, Executive Head Chef at the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Metrocentre, said of Andrew’s achievement “It’s great to see such talent from our kitchen representing the North East, and pushing forward in the trade. I wish the best of luck to such a strong member of the team”
Opened in 1990, the Newcastle Gateshead Marriott Hotel Metrocentre is one of the leading 4-star hotels in the North East, offering exceptional service and a personal touch to each event.
The final will be held in November, where Andrew will compete with another 3 chefs to win the title of Blue Arrow Chef of the Year 2014.
