Top North East chefs look to expand restaurant portfolio and create 40 jobs
Two renowned North East chefs have announced plans for a series of new restaurants, which are expected to be worth around £1 million to the local economy and create more than 40 jobs.
Richard Sim and Martin Charlton, who opened The Old Boathouse, in Amble, have announced a portfolio of several new restaurants which they have in the pipeline over the next 12 months.
Amongst these is a gourmet seafood café, Fishbox, in the town, which currently awaits planning approval.
The pair are also planning to launch private catering firm called Push The Boat Out, from Chillingham Castle’s function rooms. The Old Boat House in Blyth is due to open September.
Richard, the co-founder and head chef of The Old Boathouse, told the Northumberland Gazette: “We’re very passionate about the region, from the landscapes, the people, the quality of the produce available and the businesses we work with. We want to keep jobs in the region and throughout the year we’ll also be looking to expand to more than 40 staff for our restaurants and catering business.”
