This week’s North East appointments

Newcastle software consultancy Scott Logic has appointed four new members its marketing team in Newcastle.

Helen Ross leads the team with 14 years’ experience both at in-house marketing departments and full service marketing agencies in the UK and USA.

Jennifer MacKinnon will be taking on the role of Marketing Campaigns Manager, bringing 8 years’ experience to the team.

Also joining the team as Marketing Executive is Ross Clark, who graduated with a BA in Advertising and Design from the University of Sunderland.

Having worked in London, Ross has both managed and contributed to a wide range of national and international marketing projects.

Andrew Charlton completes this multi-disciplined team on a one-year internship.

Helen said: “Working with a rapidly growing company such as Scott Logic and having the ability to head up a new team, was an opportunity too good to refuse. With the new marketing team in place we have big plans to build the profile of the Scott Logic brand.”

Dean Murray, Square One Law

Commercial law firm Square One Law has appointed senior associate Dean Murray who joins the company commercial team after fifteen years at Bond Dickinson. Dean is a commercial contracts specialist with considerable experience acting for corporate businesses as well as public sector and third sector bodies on a wide range of commercial contracts. He also has extensive experience in the niche area of competition law. Dean has acted for a wide range of businesses across multiple sectors including fast moving consumer goods, transport, chemicals, utilities, motor manufacturing and renewable energy generation. Dean said: “I was attracted to Square One Law as it is a fast moving business and its service delivery is noticeably different. The firm has just won Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the Insider Dealmaker Awards and I know that I can make a significant contribution to the team and help bring a real competitive edge within the marketplace.” Square One Law senior partner Ian Gilthorpe said: “We are delighted to welcome a new senior associate with such wide experience. “Dean’s expertise in commercial contracts will further strengthen Square One Law’s operation as we continually look to expand the scope of what we offer.”

Matt Smith, SAFC

Matt Smith has been appointed assistant commercial director at Sunderland AFC and will be working towards developing new sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

Matt, originally from South Wales, graduated from university in 2000 after studying sports marketing and took up his first job at Rangers FC in Glasgow.

In 2008 he moved to Middlesbrough Football Club as head of partnership sales, helping the club grow its commercial activity and securing major brand names including Jaguar and Adidas.

Matt said: “Sunderland is a club with a big fan base and it’s a club with strong ambitions with where they want to go both on and off the pitch, not just nationally but internationally.”

“That’s not just the traditional areas of the football club but also through 1879 Events Management and the potential and scope for that area of business to grow and develop. “The club is already doing an awful lot of things extremely well and I hope I can help be a part of that on-going journey to growing our success.”

Gary Hutchinson, commercial director at SAFC, said: “As we continue to grow and develop the business and build stronger partnerships, it’s key that we have the right people with the right experience to help us do that,” “Matt comes with years of experience and a wealth of contacts and we look forward to him being part of our team.”

Ben Weymes, Gradon Architecture

Ben Weymes, who has completed his Part 1 in architectural design at Northumbria University, is the latest graduate to join Gateshead-based Gradon Architecture. Having graduated from BIM Campus, the recruitment of the 24-year-old, from Newcastle, is part of Gradon’s investment in the latest design technologies that will drive further efficiencies and help the practice to achieve the highest standards of sustainable design for its clients. He said: “The uptake of BIM across the industry is transforming the way in which the built environment works together. It puts architects on a level playing field with the many contractors involved on a build.

“This is ensuring that accuracy and consistency is maintained throughout the evolution of the project which is helping to improve standards of quality for clients and the end user. “I’m thrilled to have joined such a forward-thinking and caring practice like Gradon. I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver architecture that makes a difference to people’s lives for future generations.”

Lynsey Fanning, CIM

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in Durham Tees Valley has appointed Lynsey Fanning as its new Chair.

Lynsey, who takes over from Philip Knowles, has been a member of CIM for 15 years, is Marketing Manager at DeepOcean UK and is a Chartered Marketer.

Lynsey said “I’ve been involved with the CIM for many years and I’m proud to be appointed Chair of my local branch. I’m looking forward to the challenge and working with the regional teams.”
