TLJ installs locking system at Plymouth University laboratory

TLJ Security Systems, a leading supplier of smart security technologies to the accommodation industry, has helped secure Brixham Environmental Laboratory in Devon.

The Hull-based company has installed its TLJ Infinity key card locking system at the 4,500m2 and four storey building facility - used for research across marine, environmental science and biomedicine.

Established in 1948 as a marine research station, the Laboratory was previously owned by British chemical company ICI and then British multinational pharmaceutical AstraZeneca. In 2014 AstraZeneca donated the laboratory and all its equipment to Plymouth University.

The mixed-purpose Laboratory will be used for university research, commercial contract research and testing, business incubation, regulatory compliance and enforcement.

Plymouth University has used TLJ’s Infinity key card locking system, which utilities RFID contactless key card technology to provide a communal lock for all visitors while offering control over who has access to which areas of the Laboratory.

Luke Martin, managing director at TLJ, said: “Our TLJ Infinity system has always appealed to a wide variety of establishments because it is secure and can blend with and complement numerous styles and decors.”

“Because Brixham Environmental Laboratory has various areas within the building, accommodating various levels of students, staff and management, Plymouth University needed a cost-effective access control solution which would provide a high level of security while being easy to use – that’s the beauty of TLJ Infinity.”

Frank Roberts, site manager at Brixham Laboratory with Plymouth University, said: “We were seeking a simple stand-alone door access system for our Laboratory. TLJ provided by far the most competitive and robust solution to our needs. Right from the point of placing the order, through installation and training, I have found the TLJ staff to be professional, thorough and quick. I would have no hesitation in recommending TLJ to others.”
