Leeds City Council award specialist housing contract for Yeadon

Leeds City Council has taken a major step forward in provide specialist housing for older people after deciding to award a contract to construct flagship ‘extra care’ homes.

Henry Boot Construction Limited has been contracted to build 45 self-contained apartments at the Haworth Court site in Yeadon.

As part of the council’s plans to provide accommodation suitable for people’s needs now and in the future, the apartments will be the first council owned and managed extra care scheme in the city.

The development will consist of 18 one-bedroom and 27 two-bedroom apartments, and include a range of communal and outdoor spaces. Haworth Court aims to provide the elderly with spacious and modern living accommodation with the confidence of constantly having care and support.

Councillor Peter Gruen, executive member for neighbourhoods, planning and personnel, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the team at Henry Boot Construction Limited on board. Haworth Court will be the centrepiece of our plans to provide quality homes to suit the needs of our aging population.

“People are fiercely independent and it is only proper that we provide housing that gives them the opportunity to assert that independence, safe in the knowledge that the appropriate help will be there when they need to call on it.”
