Blackpool FC chairman denies FA charge
Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has denied a charge of misconduct from the FA regarding a text message exchange with a supporter of the club.
Earlier this year, Oyston became embroiled in a libel case against supporters of the club relating to comments made on an online forum.
The FA asked Oyston for his observations in January and the formal charge was issued in March.
He reportedly admitted to sending the “unacceptable” texts in response to “a barrage of abuse” he received after his phone number went public on social media.
During the text exchange, he is said to have called Stephen Smith inappropriate names, calling him “educationally subnormal” and a “sad act”.
An FA statement on Thursday read: “It is alleged that the misconduct constituted five breaches of FA rules, and that during the text message exchange, Mr Oyston used abusive and/or insulting words towards a supporter of Blackpool FC.
“Mr Oyston has denied the charge.”
The Championship side Blackpool has been in chaos since its relegation earlier this season.
