Doncaster family bakery’s specialist pies venture south with Budgens

A Doncaster-based bakery is now looking to expand its award winning, handcrafted pie service further down south after securing a deal with independent retailer Budgens.

The Topping Pie Company has launched a range of its speciality pies in Budgens’ new concept store in Crouch End, north London for a trial period and eventually hopes to supply pies to more stores throughout the UK.

Opened earlier this year, the Budgens’ flagship store offers a bigger selection of fresh products, own brand lines and an extensive bakery selection with a focus on authentic, affordable artisan products.

The convenience retailer contacted Toppings Pies to provide premium pie range, including the Scrumpy Pork Pie, Yorkshire Farmer Pork Pie and the Pickle & Wensleydale Topped Pork Pies as they are suitable for its bakery concept.

All Toppings pies are handcrafted at the South Yorkshire bakery to Maggie Topping’s family recipes and use only British Red Tractor pork and high quality ingredients.

Toppings has listings in Booths stores and its most southern stockist is Selfridges. The bakery creates pork pies and quiche for both deli counters and retailers.

The Crouch End store is the third new Budgens concept store. The new concept is focused on discovering great artisan food and affordable prices.
