Leeds’ Winder Power wins major SSEPD contract

Winder Power Ltd, based in Leeds, has secured a significant new contract from Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution for a bulk supply of framework for the energy company’s primary distribution transformers.

With this new contract, Winder Power, the manufacturer of power and distribution transformers, will be able to safeguards current jobs and potentially create new positions as the firm looks to expand in the future.

The contract, which was won following a competitive tender process, will be one of the biggest partnerships between Winder Power and the UK energy company.

SSEPD is part of the SSE group involved in producing, transmitting, distributing and supplying electricity and gas, through operations in the UK and Ireland. For the duration of the contract, Winder Power will manufacture and supply primary distribution transformers for SSEPD as well as delivery, and on-site assembly. The transformers cover a wide range; up to 20/40 MVA units.

Paul Matthews, executive director at, Winder Power, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this contract by SSEPD. Contracts like this are really important for our business and ensure that we continue to maintain and indeed create jobs in the UK”.

SSEPD awarded the contract to Winder Power due to the Leeds-based firm’s experience in supplying solutions to distribution network operators. Having started on 1 July 2015, the contract will run for five years, which may provide job creation and expansion within the Winder Power.
