Burger chain Five Guys to open Liverpool restaurant

International burger company Five Guys is due to open its first restaurant in Liverpool, according to property firm Promenade Estates.

The fast food chain will open before Christmas to take up space in the former Rat and Parrot building in Queen Square, which is currently undergoing refurbishment work.

Set to occupy 3,850 sq ft, the new outlet will be the company’s second restaurant in the North West.

Promenade Estates’ managing director, Daniel Hynd, said: “We’re thrilled to announce that Five Guys will be one of the new tenants for Queen Square.

“The success of the high-end burger market shows no sign of slowing down and Five Guys is one of the most famous ambassadors of high quality burgers.”

He added: “Queen Square is a great long standing location for restaurants in Liverpool, and the addition of Five Guys further adds to the eclectic mix of food offers already in the square.”

Established in the US state of Virginia in 1986, the Five Guys brand has since grown to encompass over 1,200 locations worldwide. In the last two years, the firm has opened 31 restaurants across the UK, including one in the Trafford Centre.

Five Guys’ UK CEO, John Eckbert, commented: “Five Guys is very excited to be launching in Liverpool – one of England’s proudest and most important cities. Queen Square is a hub of activity from playhouses to galleries, attracting the kinds of customers that will be looking for our fresh burgers and fries.

John added: “The same passion that Liverpool brings to football, whether you cheer for Liverpool or Everton, we bring to burgers. We look forward to opening later this year and serving our first burger on Merseyside.”

Agents Mason Owen and Savills acted on behalf of Promenade Estates in the deal.
