Major new venues set to roll into Hamburg
One of the largest convention centres in Europe and a concert hall shaped like a rolling wave are two of the new venues showcased by Hamburg at IMEX in Frankfurt this year.
Hamburg Convention Bureau (HCB) is providing visitors with previews of two major new venues set to launch in Germany’s second largest city at IMEX in Frankfurt 19 -21 April (stand G100).
The Elbphilharmonie celebrates the city’s close connection to the sea and is designed to look like a rolling wave in homage to Hamburg’s world-famous harbour. Due to ‘set sail’ early next year, this innovative venue will provide an eye-popping and truly unique meeting venue for planners and delegates as well as a 4-Star Westin Hotel for fine dining, accommodation and meeting space. The former warehouse for cocoa, tea and tobacco has been transformed with over 2,000 individually shaped windows - the first of their kind in the world. Visitors can explore the new venue for themselves and enjoy a glimpse inside the ‘Elphi’ via 3-D animated tours on HCB’s stand.
The team behind the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH) will join HCB to share the scope of this revitalised venue. Using virtual reality headsets, visitors can step inside the CCH, which is set to become one Europe’s largest convention centres when it opens in 2019. With a 12,000 sqm exhibition area and 12,000 seats in up to 50 halls, it will also be the largest of its kind in Germany. The redesigned centre will be able to accommodate several concurrent events and the entrance hall, rising as tall as the main building, provides an additional multi-purpose space.
Highlights of Hamburg’s exciting food and drink scene will be served alongside these major new venues. Visitors can enjoy tea cocktails, pastries and the city’s speciality - curry sausage and beer from the famous ‘Heiße Ecke’ bar.
Florian Gerdes, Marketing Manager Conventions at Hamburg Convention Bureau, explains:
“Hamburg has always been a hit with meeting and event planners and the city is set to really ramp up the ‘wow’ factor with these two venues – we look forward to sharing an insight into the new spaces with visitors to IMEX in Frankfurt this year.”
Visitors can meet the HCB team at stand G100 at IMEX in Frankfurt, 19 – 21 April.
