Work underway on Cumbria firm Treetop Nets’ first Yorkshire attraction
Lake District-based Treetop Nets has commenced work on its first attraction in Yorkshire.
The new site, near Ripon, is due to be 50% larger than the company’s main family centre in Windermere and will comprise an aerial ball pond, a 50-foot high crow’s nest and a tree house alongside a series of tree trampolines.
Four new jobs have been created by the expansion.
The company’s owner, Mike Turner, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing Treetop Nets over to Yorkshire, through the help of Welcome to Yorkshire we’ve already had lots of interest and some fantastic feedback.
“It’s going to be even bigger and more adventurous than our Windermere site and that’s really saying something, but will still keep at its core our family values, so that it remains accessible for everyone over the age of three.”
Since its launch in June 2014, Treetop Nets at Windermere has welcomed for than 60k visitors.
The business’ aerial nets were the brainchild of sailor and inventor Cedric Chauvaud, who came up with the idea after designing rope bridges and nets for researchers in the Amazon jungle.
Sir Gary Verity, the chief executive of the Welcome to Yorkshire tourism agency, commented: “I have been very impressed with what I have seen today – Treetop Nets is a really unique visitor attraction and offers something for everyone.
“Once open in May, it will be a fantastic addition to the visitor attraction offer in Yorkshire and I am sure it will attract families from far and wide.”
He added: “I would like to wish Mike and his team the very best of luck for the future.”
Work on the Ripon facility is due for completion in May.
