Employees ‘Walk the Walk’ for charity
Two employees with a Northampton housebuilder laced up their walking shoes to take part in the Walk the Walk MoonWalk London event, raising more than £1,500 for charity.
Technical secretary Julie Frost and Helen Muskin, a subcontract ledger clerk with Persimmon Homes Midlands, hit the streets during the annual half marathon walk on Saturday 14th May. Walk the Walk helps to fund breast cancer causes and raises awareness through power walking challenges across the country, as well as encouraging men and women to start walking as a way of improving their fitness. The event was Julie’s first ever half marathon, and she spent the last four months training with both Helen and her sister-in-law Mandy Rosier in preparation for the challenge. Julie said: “My sister lost her battle against breast cancer at just 44 years old. By taking part in the Moon Walk I wanted to increase awareness of this terrible disease and hope that any funds raised will help with the research required to prevent this happening to future generations. “Last year I took the decision to take up walking in an effort to help lose weight and improve my fitness, and the MoonWalk provided a motivation to continue with my fitness journey. “We completed the half marathon in three hours and 40 minutes. Although there were a few aches and pains shared along the way, nothing was going to stop us from crossing the finish line!” To date the trio have raised £1,531 and anyone who would like to donate can do so via https://moonwalklondon2016.everydayhero.com/uk/trio-of-ladies Persimmon Homes Midlands donated £250 to the trio of ladies fundraising effort to help raise cash for the worthy cause. Julie added: “I am very grateful to my colleagues at Persimmon Homes for their contribution in support of this amazing charity.” Claire Davidson, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Julie, Helen and Mandy in their half marathon walk. We’re always keen to support our staff members when they take on challenges like this and we are proud of the substantial effort they have made in training and fundraising.” Persimmon Homes Midlands operates new homes developments across Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire.
