Yorkshire Bank books six-figure fund for Scarborough hotel revamp

A Scarborough hotel is set to deliver increased occupancy after undergoing a major refurbishment assisted by a six-figure funding package from Yorkshire Bank.

The Ambassador Hotel, a Victorian hotel located on Scarborough’s esplanade overlooking South Bay, is installing new en-suite bathrooms and boilers with an aim of growing bookings.

The 59-bed hotel features contemporary interiors, an indoor pool and sauna and a bar/lounge. To date, all of the en-suite bathrooms on the third floor have now been replaced. Further modernisation will take place out of season.

Yorkshire Bank provided funding to support the project. The funding was delivered by Brian De Vere, a relationship manager based in Yorkshire Bank’s North Yorkshire Customer Banking Centre.

Charlotte Jackson, a co-director of the Ambassador Hotel, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the results of our investment – and our lovely guests are loving the new wet rooms too.

“As well as offering attractive wet-room style facilities, the bathrooms feature a much more powerful water system and showers with plenty of hot water to go round.

“The support we received from Yorkshire Bank was first class. We’ve been with the Bank for 15 years now, but much of the process was new to us because we’ve never had to borrow before. Our relationship manager Brian ensured that the transaction went smoothly, and provided us with plenty of help and advice along the way.

“The project is best thing we’ve done in a long time and it was good to get it finished quickly. If Yorkshire Bank hadn’t provided us with funding we would have introduced upgrades in stages and it would have taken years to complete. We are thrilled with the refurbishments and we are all looking forward to another sunny summer in Scarborough.”

Brian De Vere added: “It’s very rewarding to help a local business such as the Ambassador Hotel; its plan to increase occupancy will not only help the business to grow, it could also provide Scarborough’s tourism sector with an economic boost.
