Cuban rum bar Burlok coming to Marylebone this autumn
A new rum bar channeling the party atmosphere of Havana’s glamorous heyday in the 1920s, 30s and 40s is to open this autumn in Marylebone.
Burlok, which is set to launch on Friday 2 September, will be one of the UK’s largest rum houses, stocking over 200 different labels from around the world along with other Latin spirits including mezcal and rhum agricole, along with sharing dishes.
Regional delicacies including edible grasshoppers and Brazilian cheese buns will also be on the menu, while the name Burlok itself is derived from the twine and hemp packaging that rum runners used to transport Cuban rum during the prohibition era.
Featuring a 40-cover ‘Grand House’ veranda in the middle of the venue, along with a Havana-style barber shop acting as a drinking area, the whole development, which is located on Duke Street, will be styled on 20th Century colonial Cuban decor.
The bar is newest addition to The Breakfast Group portfolio, the bar group founded in 1991 by Eric Yu and Connie O’Donovan, which includes the likes of Opium Chinatown, Salvador and Amanda, and Jerusalem.
The group’s newest concept bar is to be helmed by former Barrio Group mixologist Samuel Jeavons, who will be Burlok’s Bar Manager.
Commenting ahead of the new opening, he said: “We’re serious about our drinks and service, so the quality will be top notch, but we’re the opposite of serious about everything else. There’ll be plenty of fun, tunes and partying into the early hours.”
