North West Director Wins National Award
Mike Blackburn, Chairman of Greater Manchester LEP has been announced as a national winner at the prestigious Institute of Directors’ (IoD) Director of the Year Awards. As one of only fifteen directors to win in the coveted final, Mike fought off tough competition from other business leaders across the UK to achieve the Non Executive Director of the Year title for 2016.
The event, which was held at the Lancaster London Hotel on Friday, celebrated directors at the forefront of leadership excellence, from big corporates to small businesses and also within the public sector and charities. A total of fifteen awards were presented to exceptional business leaders.
Deborah Ascott Jones, regional director for the IoD in the North West said: “In business, the big difference between success and failure is leadership. Mike has today been recognised as the best in his field by the IoD and we congratulate him on this outstanding achievement. His award really reflects the strength of inspiring business leaders that hail from our region.”
Mike was shortlisted at the North West regional Director of the Year awards which was held earlier this year in February. There he competed with other business leaders from Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria, before standing against other leading directors on the national stage. Other North West directors to be shortlisted for the national final included:
Jim Nicholson, CEO, Pochin’s Mike Brown, Senior Partner, BLM Helen Slinger, CEO, BT Business Direct Richard Wood, MD, Grain Darryl Cooke, Founder and Partner, gunnercooke LLP Neil Murray, Chief Executive, Redx Pharma Emma Sheldon, Group Marketing Director, Vernacare Paul Kenyon, Co-Founder and CEO, Avecto Yvonne Harrison, Chief Executive, Greater Sport and Diane Modahl, CEO, Diane Modahl Sports Foundation
