Regional Bar association formed for Leeds
A group of the leading Leeds barristers’ chambers have formed a new association to promote the benefits of retaining specialist commercial legal work in the region.
The initiative, driven by Kings Chambers, has resulted in the creation of The NECCBA (North Eastern Circuit Commercial Bar Association).
The new organisation aims to promote the expertise of local commercial barristers and to attract specialist commercial work to the region, particularly that which might otherwise be dealt with in London.
Eleanor Temple, barrister at Kings Chambers who is the driving force behind establishing the NECCBA, said:
“Despite the availability locally of some of the best expertise in the country – sometimes there is a perception among those in the region seeking top level commercial legal services that the very best expertise can only be secured in London – which certainly isn’t the case.
“In order to realise the growth potential of legal services in Leeds, Yorkshire and the North Eastern regions – it is essential that regional businesses utilise regional expertise, not just to keep work local, but to help create a local knowledge economy that can itself grow and be nurtured.
“Our objective in establishing the NECCBA is to promote the excellence of the local commercial bar and to foster relationships between the local bar and the wider legal and professional community.”
The NECCBA held its inaugural meeting on 19 October 2016 in Leeds.
