New VR content deal could see Ed Sheeran and Madonna performing in your living room
MelodyVR, the London-based virtual reality (VR) content creator, has signed a global deal with industry giant Warner Music that will see the tech firm creating and distributing VR content for artists such as Madonna and Ed Sheeran.
The Camden business, which has set its sights on becoming the iTunes of VR music content, will now have the exclusive rights to distribute live and pre-recorded VR content from the Warner Music stable on its platform.
As part of the deal, Warner also have the option to subscribe for over 43m shares in EVR Holdings, which is the parent company of MelodyVR, at 4.25p per share.
Anthony Matchett, CEO of EVR Holdings, commented: “Entering into a framework agreement with one of the world’s leading rights holders in music is a significant milestone for MelodyVR and I’m delighted to announce that we’ve signed a virtual reality creation and distribution agreement with Warner.
“The agreement aims to streamline the creation and distribution of virtual reality content featuring Warner artists and also unlocks a substantial portion of our existing content library for commercial exploitation.
“Warner Music represents a number of the world’s most recognised artists and over the coming years we are looking forward to creating even more content with their outstanding roster of talent.”
MelodyVR’s content platform, which is due to launch imminently, will provide music content for VR platforms such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, which both launched this year.
