Gosforth boutique hotel reveals £50k cafe expansion
The Townhouse in Gosforth has announced the opening of a new cafe restaurant, the Blue Room, the latest in a series of planned developments at the venue.
The new Victoria-style cafe in the 10-bedroom hotel, found in West Avenue, will create a handful of new jobs according to Owner Sheila Armstrong.
Ms Armstrong said: “The Blue Room will see three new jobs initially created with a further two in the next 12 months. It has seen a further investment in local firms who undertook the £50,000 refurbishment.
“I’m passionate about supporting local businesses, we’ve made sure to use small local businesses to undertake the refurbishment and supply produce to the hotel.”
Ms Armstrong took over the sole ownership of The Townhouse at the height of the credit crunch, investing over £300,000.
She said: “It was a bit of a gamble but it is now paying off. The initial conversion into a boutique hotel has proven to be a resounding success.
“The new Blue Room Cafe is a luxurious Victorian style cafe which aims to add value to our existing offering by providing an unrivalled all-day dining experience.”
The Blue Room is the latest in a series of planned future developments which will include an additional five rooms and the potential for similar boutique hotel development elsewhere on Tyneside.
Ms Armstrong added: “The Blue Room has been well received and with Gosforth attracting national firms and seeing a large investment from the local authority we are hoping to add an additional five rooms in the near future.
“We’re in a popular location, close to the High Street, and ideal for shoppers and passers-by to stop off for a light bite, a tea and a scone or something more substantial.
“In a world of diets and moderation this cafe is bucking the trend with full flavours, taste and our love of great home made food in a sumptuous surroundings.”
