Revealed: Leeds’ new rooftop Japanese restaurant Issho confirms launch date
Restaurant operator D&D London has confirmed the opening date for its new Japanese restaurant in Leeds.
Issho, occupying rooftop space within the £165m Victoria Gate development, will open its doors on Wednesday June 21.
The 7,807 sq ft restaurant will be D&D’s third site in Leeds, following on from the launch of its Angelica and Crafthouse eateries.
Issho means ‘together’ in Japanese. The venue will serve authentic Asian dishes with a contemporary twist and emphasis on sharing.
The menu has been created by executive chef Ben Orpwood, who previously held the same position at Zuma in Knightsbridge, London, and Sexy Fish in Mayfair.
With Zuma, Ben helped the business launch new sites in Istanbul and Dubai before moving to Australia to work as executive chef for leisure operator Toko Group.
Ben said of the Issho launch: “I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Japan several times and have worked in Asian restaurants across the globe, from Turkey and Dubai to London and Australia.
“My experience has certainly helped shape the menu at Issho and create eye-catching dishes that are full of flavour.”
He added: “It’s been a long time in the making but all the hard work is paying off and we can’t wait to give food fans in Leeds the chance to try it for themselves.”
