Liverpool mumpreneur launches cake making business named after her seven-month-old
A young mother from Liverpool has set up her own bakery business after being made redundant just two months after going on maternity leave to give birth to her first child.
Katie Donnelly from Roby harnessed her passion for baking to launch Little Miss Alice Cakes, which is named after her seven-month-old daughter, earlier this year.
She was named the first winner of Freedom Finance Do What You Love competition and will now use her £2,000 cash prize to fund the purchase of all her equipment.
It comes after years spent making birthday, wedding and christening cakes for her friends and family, with Donnelly’s new endeavour allowing her to make the most of her redundancy.
The 33-year-old said: “I wanted to use my redundancy as an opportunity to start something new, and this money will allow me to do just that. I’m so grateful to Freedom Finance for giving me this helping hand as it really will enable me to do what I love!
“I already have a few orders in the diary from people who have seen my cakes on Instagram, and now I can kick start Little Miss Alice cakes and make it a great success.”
Brian Brodie, chief executive of Freedom Finance, added: “We launched Do What You Love to help people achieve their dreams, so it’s fantastic to hear how we will be helping Katie to turn her passion into a business.
“We wish her all the best with her new venture and hope to sample her cakes in the not-too-distant future.”
