High street retailer signs up at intu Trafford Centre’s new £74m shopping zone
Leisure operator intu has signed a deal to make retailer Primark the first tenant of the refurbished Barton Square at intu Trafford Centre.
Barton Square, which is currently undergoing a £74m overhaul, will be anchored by a Primark store in the space formerly occupied by BHS Home.
The wider multi-million pound transformation will create an additional 110,000 sq ft of retail space topped with a new glass-domed roof.
Work on the new Primark will begin in the first half of 2018, for an opening date in 2019 when the Barton Square refurb is complete.
Colin Flinn, regional managing director at intu, said: “This is a significant milestone for intu Trafford Centre that will enable us to reposition and redevelop an important part of the centre so that we can create even better customer experiences and more opportunities for retailers to flourish.
“The work we are planning at Barton Square will attract more visitors for longer by expanding the centre’s retail and leisure mix and creating a new space befitting this architecturally-rich building.”
Commercial property consultants Cushman & Wakefield acted for intu. Primark was represented by Lambert Smith Hampton.
