North East Two Star restaurant makes it to UK's top 50

DARLINGTON’s The Raby Hunt is the only restaurant in the North East to make it on to this year’s Good Food Guide Top 50 list.

The list unveiled today (6 September) sees the two Michelin star restaurant on the coveted list for the fourth year in a row, with eateries from the rest of the region and the whole of Yorkshire not featuring at all.

Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall retains the top position, with the majority of the remaining 50 restaurants based in the south, with a handful in the North West and Scotland.

The Good Food Guide entries, which is produced by Waitrose, are decided on by reviews submitted by the public and anonymous expert inspections.

And every year it also compiles the list of the UK’s leading restaurants, based on independent submissions.

“We’re delighted to have appeared in the Top 50 yet again,” said James Close, chef/owner of The Raby Hunt.

“Competition get stronger every year so it’s great news to see that we’ve continued to maintain our presence as one of the leading restaurants in the country.”

The Raby Hunt has held two Michelin stars since 2017 and self-taught chef James is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading talents.

The restaurant is housed in a 200 year old inn and also has three rooms which offer accommodation to guests.

James’ innovative 15 course tasting menu prides itself on using seasonal ingredients, presented in a theatrical and visually stunning fashion.
