Historic grade-II listed castle in Whitby goes on the market

A popular, historic Grade-II listed castle in Whitby has been put on the market - for the first time since 1915.

Sneaton Castle and St Hilda’s Priory extends to around 59,136 sq ft, and provides conference facilities and holiday accommodation.

The properties, which are 1.5 miles west of Whitby, are currently in use by the Order of the Holy Paraclete, who will move to a newly built priory next year.

Charles Calvert from property agents JLL, who have been appointed to sell both properties, said: “Sneaton Castle represents a unique opportunity for any buyer and we’re excited to be bringing it to market for the first time in over 100 years.

“Its proximity to Whitby make it more attractive both in its current business function and for potential re-development.”

Subject to planning consents, the properties could become residential, hotel, healthcare, offices or leisure facilities.
