On The Tenth Day Of Business: The North East hospitality destination known for lords and luxury

There are now less than five days to go until Christmas, the festive tunes are well and truly doing the rounds in our heads and I’m sure a lot of us (including myself) are still running around like headless chickens looking for last-minute stocking fillers.

Christmas is naturally exciting, albeit a tad exhausting… Does anyone else feel the need, as you read this, to just drop everything and run to a spa and forget who wants what for Christmas dinner and whose presents are still waiting to be wrapped? We hear you.

With that in mind, we’ve come to our 10th installment in our 12 Days of Business feature, and today’s slot involves County Durham’s luxurious Seaham Hall.

Why? Because it’s our ‘10 Lords a leaping’ day, of course. As well as being a popular hotel and spa destination, Seaham Hall has historic connections to the poet Lord Byron.

In 1815, he married Anne Isabella Milbanke at the former country house. She soon gave birth to their daughter Ada Lovelace, who would go on to become a famous mathematician and writer.

Here, we come back to the ultramodern present day and chat with Seaham Hall’s reception manager, Danielle.

Can you give us an introduction on who you are and what your company does?

“My name is Danielle Mottram, and I have the pleasure of being hotel reception manager at Seaham Hall Hotel and Serenity Spa.

“We are a luxury 5 Red Star Hotel in The North East, [and] also the proud owner of a 5 Bubble Luxury Spa.

What has been your biggest achievement of 2019?

“I believe my biggest achievement this year has been winning ‘Warmest Welcome’ at The NEHA Awards. It was such an honour to be nominated by Seaham Hall but to go through and be chosen to win the award by the judges was such an amazing experience.

“This certainly does go to show that enjoying your career can have such a positive impact on not only yourself but others as well.”

If you could go back to the start of 2019 and tell yourself what you know now about your business, what would you say?

“Keep believing in yourself and what you are doing and you will reach your goals. 2019 has been a very successful year with multiple award wins within the team for both the spa and the hotel.

“This was topped of by the hotel to be awarded the highest accolade of 5 Red Stars in September after this being a dream of ours.”

What are your company’s plans for the new year (and decade) ahead?

“2020 is an exciting year ahead with the development of 24 lodges on the estate. There are also big plans for further spa renovations.

“This is something that everyone at Seaham Hall is looking forward to watching the company grow and develop.

How are you going to celebrate Christmas this year?

“I will be celebrating Christmas this year with my Seaham Hall family. Spreading the festive cheer and making sure all our guests are having a wonderful time celebrating with us too.”
