Middlesbrough hotel reopens doors for key workers
A Teesside hotel has announced that it is reopening to support key workers.
Holiday Inn Express in Middlesbrough will provide accommodation for power station contractors living away from their families during lockdown.
The 159-bedroom hotel had remained open until 3 April to accommodate 18 contractors.
It will reopen on Tuesday (28 April) to provide up to 20 rooms for key workers – with scope to increase the number of rooms if more front line workers need somewhere to stay.
Laura Telford, general manager of Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough, commented: “These really are unprecedented times for everyone, and we’re pleased to be able to help by safely providing accommodation for key workers in need of a place to stay.
“We understand how tough it is for the most vital frontline workers to have to leave their homes and families in exceptionally difficult circumstances, so we hope we can provide a home away from home for them.
“At the moment, the hotel is operating in a very different way compared with what we’re used to, but I’m pleased to be able to welcome even a small number of guests when they need it most.”
There will be reduced staff numbers when the Holiday Inn Express re-opens, but it is hoped more employees can be brought back from furlough as demand grows for accommodation.
