New tearoom launches at York ‘staycation’ site

Owners of a York holiday park are opening a new tea room following a surge in demand for its lodges from families enjoying ‘staycations’.

Millers Tearoom will open at Hollicars Holiday Park at Escrick, between York and Selby, in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Set within 250-acres of mature woodlands at the historic Escrick Park Estate, it is hoped the tearoom will also prove a boost to tourism in the local area.

Visits to Hollicars’ Lawley Lodges development, which opened earlier this year, have increased since lockdown restrictions eased with more holiday makers choosing to retreat within the UK rather than travel abroad.

Charlie Forbes Adam, proprietor of the Escrick Park Estate which owns Hollicarrs, said: “This is a tremendously exciting initiative. The opening of our wonderful new café is another important chapter in the Hollicarrs story.

“It follows hot on the heels of the launch of our Lawley Lodges development earlier in the year, building on the success of our first two phases at Wenlock and Harts Nook.

“The café will be a great asset for Hollicarrs residents and visitors alike. But it will also be a valuable boost to tourism in the York and Selby area, as cafes on the A19 south of York are few and far between.

“The success of Hollicarrs has given the area’s economy a timely stimulus and we are confident that this latest initiative will prove equally popular.”

Tearoom owner Paul Blanshard, who also runs facilities at parks in Raywell and Heron in East Yorkshire, added: “We have what I believe is the winning formula; great chefs and bakers, brilliant waiting staff and a value for money menu that doesn’t break the bank. On top of that, our locations are stunningly beautiful.

“It goes without saying that we will be observing strict safety measures because of Covid-19. For example, we have a very popular sharing afternoon tea which is on hold at the moment due to the pandemic, but it will be back when it is safe.”
