Firm behind Great North Run launches new HQ in ‘landmark’ Tyne Bridge scheme

The company behind one of the region’s most iconic sporting events is set to join a new development overlooking the River Tyne.

The Great Run Company, best known for its flagship event the Great North Run, has taken a space at Adderstone Group’s new office development at Gateshead Quays.

The Great Run Company, founded in 1981 by Sir Brendan Foster, is best known for its flagship event, the Great North Run.

Situated on Bottle Bank overlooking the River Tyne, the 5,259 sq ft development is scheduled for completion in October.

The Grade A office development comprises three floors of workspace, is clad in Corten steel with glazed facades, and features a rooftop terrace.

Gary Wright, chief operating officer of the Great Run Company commented: “Like many businesses, we are transitioning to flexi working and as we were coming to the end of our existing lease, the move to Tyne Bridge House provided us with the perfect space to accommodate the new working routines of colleagues based in the North East, as well as those visiting from other offices around the UK.

“This central location will give us much more scope to encourage staff to travel to work sustainably, making use of local transport links and cycle lanes.

“We also envisage the property having a major role to play on run day, with the spectacular roof terrace providing a perfect viewing gallery from which to carry out interviews and host TV cameras.”

Ian Baggett, founder and CEO of Adderstone Group, added: “We always knew this development would be perfect for a high-profile tenant and you don’t get much higher profile than the Great Run Company.

“I remember watching my dad do the first run in 1981 and I’ve done it several times since. It’s an epic event and me and my team feel honoured to now be part of the Great North Run story. Brendan is a true local hero and an inspiration.”
