McDaniels Law recognised as the leading North East IP firm in Chambers & Partners 2022

Specialist Intellectual Property (IP) lawyers, McDaniels Law, are celebrating following the recent publication of the 2022 edition of industry directory, Chambers & Partners.

McDaniels Law has been recognised as the leading IP firm in the region. The firm has retained its Band 1 ranking for IP in the North East and is the only firm to achieve a Band 1 ranking this year demonstrating its expertise and lead in the field. This success follows on from the firm’s Top Tier ranking in the 2022 Legal 500 UK Solicitors rankings, which was released in September 2021 and can be found here.

Chambers & Partners’ research is conducted by 200 Research Analysts, across 200 jurisdictions and provides nearly 6,000 rankings tables. Over the year, it collects hundreds of thousands of responses from clients, the majority via in-depth interviews to determine within which Band firms will be ranked.

The Chambers & Partners’ review reads as follows:

“Well-respected IP boutique recommended for rights acquisition, management, commercialisation and disputes. Highlighted for expertise in design rights, copyright and trade marks. One of the most experienced firms in terms of IPEC trials. Offers a portfolio service handling trade mark, patent and design registrations. Acts for clients from a range of industries, with a particular focus on furniture, homeware and apparel.”

McDaniels Law is a niche firm but remains by far the largest standalone IP team in the North East region. Clients significantly benefit from the firm’s clear focus on IP, something that has been clearly recognised by Chambers & Partners.

In addition to the firm ranking, McDaniels Law Directors, Niall Head-Rapson and Kelly Hudson were delighted to have been personally ranked once again in the 2022 edition. Niall has now been ranked continuously for 12 years and is quoted as being “one of the most authoritative trade mark and design specialists working today, and has a distinguished following among artisan and light industry clients. He comes recommended for the full spectrum of disputes, IP-led transactions and portfolio management.”

Kelly now has 8 years of continuous ranking in the guide and this year has been particularly noted for her practice in relation to brands and also for her work in respect of designs, with the guide stating

“Kelly Hudson is noted for her brands and design practice and represents clients in both contentious and non-contentious matters. She acts for clients ranging from independent designer-manufacturers to well-known clothing brands”.

McDaniels Law is a full service Intellectual Property firm, dealing with clients who have IP as a core asset of their business. The firm’s clients range from sole traders through to SME’s and PLCs. The team undertake the full range of contentious and non-contentious IP work and regularly conduct cases in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC), High Court, and Court of Appeal.
