“Spectacular” Christmas Wonderland parade returns to South Shields
Visitors and residents are set to enjoy a spectacular evening full of festivities as the Christmas Wonderland parade returns to South Shields this Friday.
The Parade will make its way along Ocean Road towards the seafront at 5pm when people lining the street will be treated to performances by the impressive ‘Spark!’ drumming group as well as music, illuminated structures, stilt walkers, dancers, street entertainers, and members of the local community.
Delivered in conjunction with the team behind the annual summer parade, Creative Seed, the event returns with a “vibrant new look” this year.
At the seafront, the festive entertainment will continue opposite Haven Point on Harbour Drive with a performance by local singer Jenn Cherene and will end with a “spectacular fireworks display”.

Councillor Joan Atkinson, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for culture and leisure, said: “The Parade is always such a popular event in South Tyneside at Christmas time and this year in particular we are excited to see it return with a fantastic new look after what has been a very challenging and difficult period for everyone.
“From the amazing ‘Spark!’ drumming group and colourful creations to the involvement of the local community, it is sure to help get people into the festive spirit. We would encourage visitors to wrap up warm and enjoy the fantastic entertainment on offer.”
The parade forms part of the wider Christmas Wonderland programme of events which is being delivered by South Tyneside Council with support from BBC Newcastle and aligns with the council’s key priority to support town centres, villages, high streets and hospitality.
