Burmese restaurant Lahpet opens at The Yards

Longmartin Properties Ltd, a joint venture between Shaftesbury and the Mercers’ Company, has announced that Burmese restaurant, Lahpet, has opened in The Yards, Covent Garden at 21 Slingsby Place. The restaurant is the brand’s first in the west end and its second in the UK. The 2,500 sq ft unit is set over two floors seating 100 covers indoors, with a combination of booths and long sharing tables and 70 covers outdoors, spanning across the heated terrace and courtyard. Offering the perfect day-to-night option, the new restaurant is also home two bars, ideal for pre or post dinner drinks.

The menu at the new Covent Garden site combines Lahpet’s well-loved classics with new regional specialities, using seasonal British produce and native ingredients imported from Myanmar. New to Lahpet, is a large robata grill, serving a wide variety of grilled dishes, meat and vegetable skewers, plus a new selection of Burmese regional and street food options. New dishes include roasted pork belly and bamboo shoots, as well as Rakhine fish noodle soup. There is also an entirely new cocktail menu, craft beer and a new wine list supplied by Liberty Wines.

The opening follows the announcement that Diageo is investing £73 million in a new 50,000 sq ft Guinness micro-brewery and cultural hub at Old Brewer’s Yard. Set to open in Autumn 2023, ‘Guinness at Old Brewer’s Yard’ will complete the extensive redevelopment scheme of The Yards. In addition, Turkish restaurant HAZ has signed for its debut west-end restaurant at 10 Upper St Martin’s Lane, due to open in March.
