Leeds marketing agency “extremely proud” to be awarded global B Corp status

Leeds based marketing agency, Search Laboratory, is now an officially Certified B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing group of global companies that are recognised as being a “force for good” in business.

B Corp certified companies are for-profit companies who show evidence of a commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive economy. It is a “rigorous” accreditation process where businesses are judged on a variety of criteria, including its work to help the environment, its employees, and the community.

Powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, Search Laboratory is a carbon-neutral company that has been recognised for its environmental initiatives and support in the local community. The Leeds office, which currently has over 100 employees, sends zero waste to landfill.

The accreditation also considers the wellbeing of employees and equality in the workplace. The agency has just placed 19th in Best Companies’ Top 100 Mid-Sized Companies to work for, marking their ninth appearance on the list.

Each year the agency works with a charity chosen by staff, supporting them through frequent fundraising and by providing digital expertise on a pro-bono basis to set the charity up for future success. Its last partnership with Leeds Hospital Charity raised over £18k to help fund family bedrooms at Leeds General Infirmary.

Now partnered with Leeds Mind, the agency has a target of £16k to raise for the mental health charity to provide funding for 200 counselling sessions and peer support for 240 people in the community.

Becoming a B Corp means Search Laboratory joins a community of businesses that are considerate of their social and environmental impact. Other notable companies that are certified B Corps include Innocent Drinks, Vita Coco and Jojo Maman Bébé.

Renae Shaw, head of people at Search Laboratory, commented: “I love working for a company that genuinely cares. It’s wonderful how every person at every level gets involved in helping others and the environment.”

Ian Harris, founder of Search Laboratory, added: “As a company I can’t think of a time when we didn’t think about ways of giving back to our community and planet, so to be certified as B Corp gives us the recognition for actions we have been making for some time.

“I am extremely proud of all of the work that has gone into making this happen and thankful to the whole team for getting involved and genuinely caring about these initiatives, without them we would not be able to make the impact we have.”
