“Iconic” American bakery set to re-open in London’s Notting Hill following renovation

“Iconic” American bakery and world-renowned stalwarts on the London dessert scene, The Hummingbird Bakery, will re-open the Portobello Road bakery in Notting Hill mid-February, following a makeover.

Located in Notting Hill, 133 Portobello Road is the first bakery The Hummingbird Bakery opened when it launched in 2004. Favourite among locals and also a popular tourist spot, The Humming Bakery is renowned for introducing Red Velvet cakes to Great Britain.

The bakery will reveal its new look just in time for Valentine’s Day and it will have a customisation station, marble countertops and “flashes of signature Hummingbird Pink”, reflecting the new style of The Hummingbird Bakery as seen in recent openings in Victoria and St John’s Wood.

The venue will serve cheesecakes, traditional American pies, birthday cakes, brownies and cookies. To celebrate the reopening of Portobello Road Bakery, guests will be greeted by the Bakershop Quartet.

Visitors to the new Portobello Road bakery can customise their desserts and celebration cakes in store by a team of expert bakers and order a new Red Velvet soft serve ice cream at the Personalisation Station.

Michael Bones, branch manager at The Hummingbird Bakery Portobello Road, commented: “All of us at The Hummingbird Bakery Notting Hill are excited to welcome our guests back to our newly renovated store.

“As the original The Hummingbird Bakery, our presence on the famous Portobello Road is iconic and holds a special place in our hearts.

“We have put a lot of thought into the new design of the bakery and have created some new Notting Hill themed treats to wow our guests. We can’t wait to introduce our cupcake-inspired ice cream. See you there!”

The Hummingbird Bakery has five bakeries in London (Portobello Road, South Kensington, Spitalfields, Victoria and St John’s Wood) and there are plans to open more bakeries in 2023. The Spitalfields bakery is due to close for a makeover soon.

Customers can order birthday, baby shower and other celebration cakes online for delivery within London postcodes via website, or for same day delivery of classic treats such as cupcakes and Red Velvet cake are available via UberEats, Deliveroo and Supper.
