Newcastle city centre rooftop garden venue set to become city’s ‘hottest sky lounge’
A hidden, Balearic rooftop venue ‘Altitude’ is opening its doors in the heart of Newcastle this weekend.
Altitude will bring together a playful Balearic party vibe, sundowner cocktails, classic house DJs and dancers, in what is set to become the city’s latest outdoor venue this summer. Situated on Clayton Street West, Altitude is a secret hidden garden on the rooftop of music venue NX (formerly the O2 Academy).
Sitting seven stories above the hustle and bustle of the streets below, guests can expect bottomless brunches and cocktails to the sound of house classics by resident DJs and dancers. The roof terrace depicts Altitude’s “playful and bold” style that unites “chillout zones and relaxation with Ibiza vibes”.
The curator of pop-up events Central Park on Times Square, MoosenWirt and Newcastle’s Christmas Bar on Grey Street is behind the new rooftop bar, which is set to open to the public on Saturday June 24.
The alfresco destination is accessed via a hidden wooden alcove on Clayton Street, to the side of NX Newcastle. Once you enter and make your way to the rooftop on the seventh floor. Set in the “perfect suntrap” location, the summer bar Altitude aims to leave customers feeling like they have left the city and landed in Ibiza.
The design inspiration brings in elements of a Tulum décor with a European style of vibrant wall murals, bamboo fencing and a drooped net ceiling in one area of the bar. The venue is fully heated and lit by pendant-style festoon lighting.
Offering bottomless ‘drunch’ packages, private bookings and pizzas courtesy of local business Gingerino’s, Altitude seeks to provide the “perfect place for alfresco dining, group bookings and date nights, as well as after-work wind-downs and summer vibes long into the night”.
Curator of Altitude, Mike Hesketh, commented: “I am brimming with excitement to introduce this remarkable venue to our city’s already amazing hospitality scene. Altitude was created by infusing the spirit of Balearic bliss and a sun-kissed sanctuary that combines the energy of a playful party atmosphere with the laid-back vibes of Ibiza.
“We want our guests to step into our secluded sun trap and instantly transport them to the enchanting allure of Ibiza that beckons them to unwind, indulge, and create ever-lasting memories.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our rooftop garden, where the sky is not the limit, but only the beginning. Get ready to ascend to new heights and enjoy a touch of Balearic magic on Newcastle’s skyline.”
