UKCM Participates in Crazy Challenge for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity
Colleagues at Cheshire-based container repair and refurbishment company UK Container Maintenance (UKCM), have raced to the finish line in a local Krazy Races Soapbox Derby, raising over £2,000 and counting for charity.
A team of expert welders at the firm, aptly named the ‘Welder Bears’ dedicated their time to create a first class, motor-less vehicle worthy of hurtling downhill in the wacky race.
In the run up to the highly anticipated annual event, employees at UKCM embarked on a fundraising drive, with an ambitious target of £2,000 to gather much-needed funds for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, the only dedicated charity for patients and research at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. The cause is held close to UKCM and Welder Bear team member Tony Bedford, who was supported by the charity through his own personal journey with throat cancer.
Speaking about the charity, Tony Bedford said: “I know first-hand the fantastic work that is done at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. On the 11th November 2021 I was diagnosed with throat cancer, and my chemotherapy and radiotherapy was all done at the Clatterbridge; my consultants, doctors and nurses all went above and beyond to ensure I was looked after and ok.”
“Today, one year and five months later I am one of the lucky ones and we are keen to raise as much money as we can for this amazing charity.”
Emma Elston MBE, founder of UKCM comments: “The team had fantastic day watching the Krazy Races Soapbox derby and cheering on the Welder Bears, all for a cause close to our heart here at UKCM.
“As a family-owned business with a close-knit team, we understand the importance of doing all that we can to support the causes within our community which is why we actively encourage our employees to engage in charitable endeavours – and, they’re always enthusiastic to participate!”
