BAE Systems establishes local business in Ukraine
In Kyiv, earlier this week, the British defence company, BAE systems held a meeting to announce the establishment of a ‘local legal entity’ as well as agreements with the Ukrainian Government, promising to increase the support they provide to the Ukrainian armed forces.
In the days leading up to BAE System’s agreement with Ukraine, Sweden signed a statement of intent with Ukraine which promised to strengthen cooperation in production, operation, training, and servicing of the CV90 platform, an infantry fighting vehicle produced by BAE System’s Hagglunds business in Sweden.
Charles Woodburn, chief executive of BAE systems said, “Alongside our government customers, we’ve been discussing with President Zelenskyy and his team how to best evolve the support that we’re already providing to Ukraine.
“Signing the agreements and establishing a legal entity in Ukraine builds on our existing trust and support and paves the way for us to work together to provide more direct support to the Ukrainian armed forces”
President Zelensky opined on X (formerly known as Twitter), “The development of our own weapons production is a top priority.”
In a country in the grips of conflict, these agreements are a welcome sight to the local economy as well as the countries defence capabilities.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industry added, “I am grateful to BAE Systems for the bold decision to stand side by side with us in the fight against Russian aggression and building the future of the Ukrainian defence industry. Together with the company, we will be able to localize the production of advanced weapons.”
