Laytons ETL, the City of London based international commercial law firm, has promoted Alexandra Bartrope to the position of head of private client. She takes over from Ian Burman, who established the team in 1989 and remains with the firm but has stepped back from management to focus on building his private client and charity practice.

Alexandra joined Laytons ETL as a partner in 2018. Prior to that she worked as a senior associate at the London firm Moon Beever (which went on to merge with Wedlake Bell in 2021), and as a solicitor at the North East firms Clarke Mairs and Browell Smith & Co.

She is a Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) qualified lawyer, whose expertise includes administering ultra-high-net worth estates across multiple jurisdictions and advising on and drafting cross-jurisdictional wills.

The private client team has also been joined by associate Kloarba Dema and paralegal Eleaner Cross. Their arrival brings the departmental headcount to six, and the team also works closely with Laytons ETL’s highly regarded tax, family & matrimonial and charity practices.

Kloarba previously worked at Hodge Jones & Allen and Bishop & Sewell, and also gained significant pre-qualification experience at Fraser & Fraser, the specialist firm of genealogists and probate researchers. She is an affiliate of STEP and a member of the Professional Deputies Forum.

Eleaner achieved distinctions from the University of Law in both the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course (LPC). While studying for her LPC she volunteered with Street Law, a free legal education programme delivered to schools and community groups.

Simon Staplehurst, Delineate

Real-time brand and campaign tracking firm Delineate today announced the expansion of its London based team. The expansion includes the bolstering of the brand tracking, campaign and media teams to meet the growing demand from clients across key sectors.

As part of the expansion, Simon Staplehurst joins the London team as client director with clients in consumer packaged goods and travel, having recently led teams at FWD Consult and Bauer-Sewells. He was previously head of international media at Ipsos.

Other recent hires include Olga Roffey as Client success manager and David Lo as senior client success manager, both joining from Kantar.

Nigel Whitehurst, Vail Williams

Vail Williams has hired a new partner as the property consultancy continues to expand its Valuation team following sustained business demand. Nigel Whitehurst has been appointed in the firm’s Gatwick region, based in Crawley, to grow the business further.

He has joined from Gerald Eve, where he spent 10 years working in the Commercial Valuation team, responsible for business generation and valuing all sectors in the commercial market.

Nigel also worked across a range of residential properties ranging from single flats to blocks of flats for a wide range of clearing and challenger banks, property companies and individuals. He previously worked for Jones Lang LaSalle, King Sturge and Cushman & Wakefield. He has over 20 years’ experience in the valuation sector.

Nigel commented: “I had no hesitation in joining Vail Williams at Partner level. I see this as an incredible opportunity to help grow this progressive firm’s Valuation offering as well as using my experience to assist and guide the excellent team.

“At Vail Williams my role is to help grow the valuation side of the business through introducing new clients and work, including cross-selling to other teams where appropriate. I thrive in the responsibility of business development and fee generation through creating new contacts with banks, property companies or other lenders.”
