Powertherm strengthens leadership and management with dynamic 'PowerTeam Leadership Academy’ training programme

Powertherm Contract Services, a leading multi-disciplinary industrial services provider headquartered in Sheffield, is poised for transformative growth with the launch of its innovative leadership and management training initiative, the ‘PowerTeam Leadership Academy’.

This strategic initiative was made possible through a steadfast commitment to workforce development further bolstered by funding from South Yorkshire Skills Bank towards training costs.

Powertherm is renowned for its comprehensive range of innovative industrial solutions, including insulation, scaffolding and rope access, fire protection and protective coatings systems. From surface preparation, electrical trace heating and refractory lining, the company has over 30 years’ experience providing essential services for energy infrastructure maintenance and construction projects.

Recognising the critical role of skilled leadership in driving business success, Powertherm conducted a thorough training needs analysis across all levels of its workforce. The results emphasised the necessity of upskilling, prompting a significant investment in leadership and management training.

The ‘PowerTeam Leadership Academy’, delivered by Bobby from BSA Training, aims to empower supervisors, team leaders, managers, and senior managers with practical skills tailored to their roles. The programmes focus on enhancing their ability to manage teams effectively, improve communication, and align everyone towards common business goals. By equipping leaders to handle day-to-day pressures and work more efficiently, the Academy enables a shift from working ‘in’ the business to working ‘on’ the business.

Abby Naylor, Head of People & Development at Powertherm, expressed the company’s commitment to workforce development. “We want our leaders to be efficient, effective, and supportive of their teams’ well-being. The PowerTeam Leadership Academy is a cornerstone in achieving these objectives,” she stated.

“All the managers were open to the training, were engaged throughout; and were comfortable in sharing their experiences and supportive by suggesting ideas on what they could do. I am ever so pleased how well Programme 1 has gone, the feedback received, and the impact it is having. We are really looking forward to continuing Programme 2 in the New Year, delivered by Bobby, with further Skills Bank funding towards the training costs.”

Bobby Singh from BSA Training added, “In collaboration with Powertherm, we designed the training package, including the number of sessions and the chosen topics that would make up the Academy, and agreed on suitable dates and times. Tailored training that develops and strengthens both the team and individuals together with facilitated discussions has proven to be highly effective and well-received.”

The positive impact of leadership and management training extends beyond immediate operational improvements. The programmes are designed to attract new talent, enhance employee satisfaction, reduce absenteeism, and support overall employee well-being. It also plays a crucial role in identifying and nurturing future leaders within the organisation through succession planning and career pathway mapping. Powertherm also employs over 40 apprentices throughout the business so individual managers will be better equipped to support, mentor and progress a diverse workforce.

The innovative ‘PowerTeam Leadership Academy’ aligns with Powertherm Contract Services’ dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery. The funding provided by South Yorkshire Skills Bank underscores the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s commitment to fostering business growth in the region.
